This 60-minute course will review common symptoms of attachment wounds, how they present in clients and various client populations, and the common diagnoses that will share characteristics of attachment wounds. We will cover two cases that used Accelerated Resolution Therapy to treat attachment wounds for both child and parent and discuss which scripts to use to address specific problems. We will also consider how to address pre-verbal memory and will teach additional interventions that will target attachment issues.
Learning Objectives: By the end of this training, participants will be able to:
1. Identify common diagnoses that may present with attachment disorders and where you might consider treating this using ART.
2. Describe how to use Scene Match to access early memories, along with how we can use similar processes to access pre-verbal, somatic memory.
3. Describe strategies for treating both the child with attachment wounds and the adoptive parent for better outcomes for both.
Duration: 60 minutes (1 Continuing Education Hours)
Delivery Format: Live Zoom training
Instructor Bio: Brittney Clow (she/her/hers), LISW-CP/S, provides therapy for children, adolescents, adults, and families. She specializes in working with trauma, attachment disorders, identity issues, shame, complex PTSD, and family conflict. She also has experience and training with post-adoption, with extensive training in the use of Narrative Therapy. She has worked previously in foster care and adoption, so she has experience in treating children with abuse and neglect in their past. Brittney’s primary focus with clients centers around the idea that non-functional behaviors are adaptive, and the goal is to heal what caused and continues to cause these symptoms today. Brittney has been practicing Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) since 2018, which is evidence-based for the effective and fast resolution of PTSD and depression, along with several other mental health problems. ART is shown to achieve benefits rapidly, typically from 1-5 sessions. Brittney is a Master Certified ART Therapist and trains other therapists in both the Basic and Advanced levels of ART. She currently owns a group private practice called Counseling Services of Greenville with several clinicians who focus on treating trauma. When she is not doing clinical work, Brittney is training and speaking on attachment, adoption and trauma in the Upstate of South Carolina.
