Deborah Schindele M.A.
Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and Therapist
ART Trained Therapist
After running biotech companies in Seattle for many years, I became disabled as the result of a major trauma in 1995. Surgery and traditional Western medicine could only do so much, so I turned to mind-body medicine and moved to the island of Maui to complete my healing. Many complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) approaches proved to be quite helpful, but I needed to go further. To understand the broader implications of my experiences and facilitate true healing, I completed a master's degree in spiritual/transpersonal psychology. To deepen my mind-body connection and unearth the subconscious patterns beneath the issues and safely transform my physical body, I also became a certified hypnotherapist and personal trainer. Ultimately my physical body and psyche were transformed, and I found true healing.
To share what I had learned in service to helping others, I then became a family nurse practitioner (FNP) and practiced in community health, functional medicine via my own practice and oncology/breast care. Realizing that so many of the issues were psychological in origin and wanting to use my counseling expertise in conjunction with psychedelic medicines and functional medicine knowledge, I then became a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) and psychedelic-assisted therapist. I learned additional modalities such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), Cognitive and Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy. I also became a yoga teacher, breathwork facilitator, sound healing practitioner, and kirtan leader.
I have facilitated hundreds of psychedelic journeys and used all the techniques learned for both individuals and groups in single session and retreat format. I currently offer ketamine-assisted psychotherapy and psychotherapy in Arizona. (Ketamine is legal in all of the US.) In collaboration with others, I can offer psilocybin therapy in Oregon and Colorado. (Psilocybin is legal in other countries, and in the states of Oregon and Colorado when performed by a licensed facilitator.) I do not currently offer ayahuasca, ibogaine, MDMA, 5-Meo DMT or other psychedelic therapies as they are not legal in the US. I'm a huge fan of GLP-1 receptor agonists (e.g., Ozempic) so I also offer these medicines for blood sugar and weight control.
