An innovative center aims to help military combat veterans — those who have served in a deployed location during a conflict or war — overcome trauma and related disorders.
Veterans Alternative, located in the Tampa Bay area, provides veterans and their significant others myriad alternative therapies designed to help in recovery and community engagement. A five-day program, offered at no cost to veterans and their spouses, centers around an alternative treatment: accelerated resolution therapy.
“ART is an evidence-based psychotherapy that fosters rapid recovery by reprogramming how the brain stores traumatic memories and imagery,” according to the Veterans Alternative website. “The therapy incorporates memory visualization techniques that are enhanced by the use of horizontal eye movements, as well as memory reconsolidation, a way in which new information is incorporated into existing memories.”
