Mary Kathryn "Kathy" Long
LMHC
Licensed Mental Health Counselor
Kathy Long attended the University of South Florida (USF), where she received her B.A. in Psychology and M.A. focusing on Mental Health Counseling. She designed and conducted an Honors project looking at autobiographical memories. Her clinical experience includes counseling individuals struggling with emotional disorders, abuse issues, addictions, co-dependency, and relationship problems.
In 2010, Long was trained in Accelerated Resolution Therapy® (ART) at the University of South Florida to study its effectiveness on trauma symptoms. She feels honored to have been a part of a group of clinicians who studied ART and its impressive ability to alleviate the negative effects of Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). She was involved in most of USF’s research studies on the effectiveness of ART for people who have experienced trauma, both civilian and military. She has also participated in educating other clinicians in this approach at several Army bases such as Fort Belvoir, Fort Hood, Fort Drum, and Fort Stewart.
When she first started counseling, she was very committed to using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. After seeing the benefit of Accelerated Resolution Therapy for hundreds of people through USF’s research and in her private practice, she became a trainer of the therapy. She has trained civilian and military psychologists, Clinical Social Workers, Mental Health Counselors, and other clinicians in the use of ART. She has been trained to teach all levels of ART- Basic, Advanced, and Enhanced – and finds great pleasure in educating wonderful clinicians in a therapy that brings change for clients and reduces stress for psychotherapists.
In 2020, she was chosen by Laney Rozenzweig to teach the new trainers for the Rosenzweig Center for Rapid Recovery (RCRR) and has been working closely with her to spread the amazing therapy, Accelerated Resolution Therapy®.
