Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker, Diplomate Clinical Social Worker

Amy Shuman received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Massachusetts and her master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Connecticut. She has more than 20 years of professional experience working in clinical, administrative, academic and group social work settings. She holds the credential Diplomate in Clinical Social Work (DCSW), which is the highest level of credentialing available through the National Association of Social Workers, the largest professional social work organization in the world.

Her work includes holding positions such as Director of an acute residential treatment unit, Clinical Specialist Consultant (assessing children and youth with sexual behavior problems), an Intensive Case Manager for Massachusetts Behavioral Health Partnership and as a college Mental Health Counselor and Adjunct Instructor.

Shuman’s professional training includes Accelerated Resolution Therapy® (ART), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Critical Stress Debriefing and Red Cross Mental Health Disaster Volunteer. The various trainings dovetail with over 25 years of experience in clinical intervention of acute psychiatric episodes and psychiatric stabilization of children and youth and their families.

Her experience at the national level includes trauma intervention and recovery including triage, referral and crisis counseling for the faculty, staff, students and families at Columbine High School (May 1999) and at the Woodstock II concert in 1994 (Saugerties, NY).

Shuman is currently a college Mental Health Counselor and Trauma Specialist at Western New England College in Springfield, Massachusetts. In addition, she serves as a Clinician and Lead Trainer for the Rosenzweig Center for Rapid Recovery.
